Personal Background: Bob is an Oregon native, having been born in Ontario, Oregon and lived in Malheur County all his life, except for the time he was away at the University of Oregon. Bob married his high school sweetheart, Sandy, who is also a Malheur County native. They have five living children and 18 grandchildren.
Bob began practicing law in 1967 with Charlie Swan, who was his neighbor when he was a child growing up in Vale. Charlie had been his unofficial advisor while Bob was in law school, suggesting classes that he should take to prepare him for a rural Oregon law practice. When they started practicing together in 1967, Charlie was already 67 years old and was hoping that Bob would step in and eventually take over his practice. He actually stayed involved, unofficially during the later years, until he died in 1994. Charlie was a great friend and mentor.
Early on Bob decided he didn’t enjoy litigation and since Cliff Looney was so much better at it than he was, Cliff took over the court room practice and Bob kept an office practice primarily involved in real estate, business, estate planning, and related areas of the law practice.
Much of Bob’s “spare time” has been devoted to family and church related matters. Bob and his family have travelled extensively and he has served in many positions in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In 2006, Bob and his wife served a six-month mission as temple missionaries in Palmyra, New York. Bob enjoys camping, fishing, and spending time with his extended family.
